Kilcar edged out derby foes Naomh Columba to reach the Donegal minor final last night in front of a big crowd in Fintra.

Kilcar 0-14 Naomh Columba 1-9

Kilcar edged these two tightly matched teams with a bit more fire power in the second half.

The game wasn’t a minute old when Paddy McShane kick a good score to put Kilcar off to a good start.

A couple of Aran Doherty frees put Naomh Columba one up by the eighth minute.

Ciaran Gillespie’s accuracy from a free was cancelled out by another Doherty free.

Doherty and Oran Doogan and then Paul O’Hare and Gillespite traded scores before Glen bagged the game’s only goal. Doherty soared a free high into the danger zone and Tadhg McGinley was quickest to reach. McGinley fired home from close range to put Naomh Columba ahead by four.

Kilcar responded with points from Shane Gillespie and Ryan O’Donnell before the break and there was still time for Glen ‘keeper Colin Doherty to make a great point blank save from Caolan Curran to preserve the lead.

At the start of the second half Kilcar started with a point in the first minute from Shane Gillespie which was quickly cancelled out by Doherty.

Quick points were traded between Doherty and McShane.

Kilcar pulled clear with points coming from Oran Doogan and Eoin Cormack and they led.

Doherty, with another free, levelled matters again in the 50th minute, but it was Kilcar who trumped with Gillespie and Caolan Curran on the mark to seal a two-point win.
