Letterkenny Municipal District is to explore the possibility of rolling out a text alert scheme enabling members of the public to report illegal parking on disabled parking bays.
At the September meeting of the Letterkenny Municipal Authority, to be held on Monday in Milford, Councillors will discuss a proposal on the matter.
Councillor Jimmy Kavanagh has asked that the Council consider introducing such a system on a pilot basis.
A similar scheme was launched in Wexford last year and is said to have been a great success.
The scheme was devised by the Gorey Municipal District in conjunction with Wexford County Council’s IT department.
Members of the public text a reference and location and the Community Warden delivers a fine.
