Listen: Karen Guthrie and Glenfin step out of the darkness again

Karen Guthrie’s voice was quivering as she tried to assess Glenfin winning back the Donegal senior ladies title this evening.

A nervy, tense and yet absorbing final saw Glenfin prevail 1-9 to 1-7.

Glenfin – pictured above by Joe Boland, North West News Pix – didn’t score in the last 20 minutes and had to withstand a mountain of pressure late in the game.

“We made hard work as always,” Guthrie said.

“We played with a stiff wind and we struggled in patches. Moville are a quality side, but we made hard work when we didn’t need to. When you’re nervous and out there it’s a different story.”

Glenfin lost last year’s final to Moville and it was a defeat that left them in what the Castlefin woman says was a ‘dark’ place.

She said: “There’s been a lot of hurt.

“Everyone was questioning what was going on. We were in a bad place, a really bad place, after last year. Sometimes when you’re in a rut it’s hard to reverse.”
