Donegal company raises amazing €10,000 for ‘BUMBLEance’ ambulance service

Staff at Donegal based leading organic salmon producer, Marine Harvest Ireland (MHI), swapped their work-clothes for running gear in a bid to raise funds for the Children’s National Ambulance.

Over 220 people turned out for this year’s Marine Harvest Ireland 5k fun run.

The recently hosted second annual run was a resounding success building on last year’s event which raised €1,000 for the Mulroy Coast Guard.

The money raised at this year’s run surpassed the funds raised last year, with the total coming in well over the 10,000 mark.

The annual run is part of MHI’s staff and community wellbeing initiative with all proceeds from this year’s event being donated by MHI to the BUMBLEance service, a worthy cause which has been a huge help to the family of a Marine Harvest employee.

Speaking at the event, Maurice Kelly, HR Manager at MHI said; “The annual Marine Harvest Ireland fun run is always an exciting day in the calendar and a fantastic way to support and promote the wellbeing of our staff whilst raising money for a worthy cause.

“Marine Harvest is delighted to be in a position to match the money raised through local fundraising efforts and play our part in supporting the BUMBLEance service which works to ensure that sick children can be as comfortable as possible during what can often be a very stressful time.

“We would like to thank all staff and members of the community who took part in this year’s event to raise funds for such a worthy cause.”

Established by the Saoirse Foundation in September 2013, the BUMBLEance service is a national children’s charity which provides an interactive ambulance service designed specifically for children who require travel from their homes to treatment centres across Ireland.

In addition to containing the usual medical equipment found in any ambulance service, each ambulance contains an entertainment system in order to provide a fun environment for ill children.

Speaking of the funds raised by the event, Tony Heffernan, founder of BUMBLEance said; “On behalf of the seriously ill children who use our BUMBLEance services, I am very grateful to Marine Harvest Ireland and to all those who put time aside to organise and take part in today’s race. The funding provided will go a long way in helping us to provide a safe, fun and comfortable environment as they attend hospital and other treatment centres”.
