Worry for Martin O’Neill as Shane Duffy hobbles off for Brighton

TWO DAYS OUT from the draw for the World Cup play-offs, there is a worry for Republic of Ireland manager Martin O’Neill with the news that Shane Duffy hobbled off injured for Brighton today.

Duffy, Derry born and a son of Letterkenny native Brian, was man of the match in Ireland’s 1-0 win over Wales in Cardiff on Monday but this afternoon back in the Premier League, the central defender was withdrawn with a suspected groin injury against Everton 17 minutes from time. The 25-year-old did make it to his feet before being withdrawn.

Anthony Knockaert had given Brighton the lead before Wayne Rooney levelled with a last minute penalty.

The draw for the World Cup play-offs will be held on October 17 with the play-offs taking place over two nights in November, between 9-11 and 12-14. Ireland, who are unseeded, can draw either Switzerland, Croatia, Italy or Denmark.
