Picture special: 13 from Letterkenny 24/7 Club at Dublin Marathon

On Sunday 20,000 competitors took to the streets of the Capital to take on the SSE Airtricity Dublin City Marathon. Among those 20,000 24/7 had 13 members to finish the gruelling 26.2 mile course.

Peter O’Donnell was the first 24/7 member to cross the line at a buzzing Merrion Square. Peter completing an amazing 2017 season with a blistering PB time of 2:55:28. Michael Logue also finished under the 3-hour mark, crossing the line in 2:57:12. Clint Doherty, just a few weeks after his Ironman debut in Barcelona finished in 3:12:38.

Paul Dillon took on the marathon challenge with six of his siblings, raising (so far) over €12,000 for the Irish Kidney association.

Paul, on his marathon debut crossed the line in a superb time of 3:19:35.

Anthony Sweeney was another marathon debutant, Anthony had a strong run crossing the finish line in 3:30:20.

Adrian Callaghan, a seasoned marathon runner at this stage ran 3:36:08. Jonathan Edwards had a fine marathon debut crossing the line in a brilliant time of 3:37:21. 

Gerard McGettigan was next in a time of 3:41:02. Seamus Morrison had a brilliant run finishing with a sub 4- hour time of 3:57:08. Desiree Casburn, one of only two 24/7 females to take on this year’s marathon smashed her sub 4hour target with an impressive run of 3:56:36.

Paul Kelly had an excellent PB of 4:04:05, knocking 25minutes off his 2016 marathon time.

Stephen Sweeney crossed the finish line in a super time of 4:09:48, along with fellow club man Niall Mulrine. Rumour has it Stephen talked for all but .2 of the 26.2 mile course!!

Martina McDaid put her difficult triathlon season behind her setting her sights on the bling of a marathon medal. Martina had a brilliant run finishing in a super 4:19:42.

Congratulations to all Club members on their marathon achievements, you should all be very proud. Thanks also to all the travelling 24/7 support.

Newmills 10k

Michael Black was 3rd in Sunday’s Newmills 10k organised by LAC in a time of 35:32. Gavin Crawford crossed the finish line in 37:29, John Daly in 42:18, Jarlath Duffy in 43:44, Brian Gallagher in 51:51

and Niamh McDaid in a time of 58:25.

Gaeltacht Adventure Race

24/7 was also represented at the inaugural Gaeltacht Adventure race held on Saturday Well done to Gavin Harris, 5:49:43 and Pauric Mitchell, 5:55:37, who took on the full course that consisted of a 3k run, 10k bike, 5k beach run, 8k bike, 2k hill run, 32k bike, 8k mountain run, 8k bike.

Well done to Lourde Walsh and Peter Mc Clean who took on the sport distance finishing in a time of 2:22. Special mention to Lourde on completion of her first adventure race. The Sport distance consisted of a 3k walk/run, 19k bike, 3k mountain walk, 8k bike.

Coaching- Tri Leaders course

The club are hoping to hold a Tri Leaders programme in the next month. Anyone interested in coaching and taking part in a Tri Leaders course that would possible lead onto a Level One coaching course please contact Gavin Crawford for more information.

Swim Fees

The final quarterly swim fee for the year is now due for all participants with no exceptions.

End of year awards/Christmas Night

The club’s end of year Awards/Christmas night out will take place on Friday 24th November at Arena 7 at 8pm. Tickets are €25 and can be purchased at Tuesday /Wednesday/Thursday club swim and run sessions and are available from this Thursday 3rd November and for the next few weeks or can be requested from any committee member.

2016 prize winners are asked to return prizes to committee members as soon as possible.

24/7 Discount

A number of local shops have kindly offered discount to 24/7 club members. Halfords, Wet n Wild and Castle Cycles Raphoe are all offering 10% discount to members upon presentation of a current Triathlon Ireland membership card.

Bike Safety

All club members are reminded they must have a working front and rear light as well as mudguards on their bikes.

Club Training

Club training continues as follows:

Tuesday:  Track session- Track session Tuesdays 7.45pm

Wednesday: Swim session- Advanced 7-8pm, Intermediate/ Beginners 8-9pm

Thursday: Long run leaves Aura 6.30pm

Saturday: Club cycle leaves from Aura at 8am

Saturday: Club swim session Saturday at 6pm (please note prepayment does not cover Saturday sessions)
