Nicole Gordon’s first-half hat-trick sent Letterkenny Institute of Technology’s ladies on their way to a resounding win over DIT at the Port Road.

It’s three wins from three for Jonny Baird’s team, who again delivered a devastating attacking display.

Gordon was immense for the LyIT side and her hat-trick was just part of the story on an afternoon when her talents were obvious.

Amanda Callaghan’s opener, in the ninth minute, broke the stalemate and by the interval they were 6-0 ahead with Aishleen McGuinness and Lauren Cregan getting in on the act.

After sub Vanessa McHugh added a brace of goals, Zoe McGlynn wrapped it up with number nine late in the game.

Following wins over Dundalk and Blanchardstown in their opening two games, LyIT came into this one in confident mode.

Having combined well with Gordon, playing two one-twos in the corner, Callaghan cracked home past Theresa O’Donovan.

Earlier, Callaghan’s shot deflected off O’Donovan’s foot, while Cregan shot just wide.

Gordon doubled the lead with a superb second. The Greencastle woman was on the half-turn as she planted a first-timer, from Callaghan’s corner, right into the bottom corner.

A fine solo effort by Gordon was quickly followed by McGuinness finishing neatly after being played in by McGlynn’s threaded pass.

On the half-hour, LyIT stretched the lead as Cregan magnificently rose to flick home a header from a delicious cross by Callaghan and Gordon hammered home her hat-trick, though the modest Inishowen woman declined to be interviewed afterwards!

Twelve minutes into the second-half, McHugh connected to a McGlynn cross and shot off the post.

McHugh beat the offside trap to add another and the rout was complete when Sion Swifts midfielder McGlynn riffled home from the edge of the box.

Letterkenny Institute of Technology: Aoife McColgan, Ellen Monaghan (Hannah Shiels 58), Zoe Green, Chantel Kelly (Vanessa McHugh half-time), Amy Boyd, Amanda Callaghan (Aisling Grieve 49), Rachel McLaughlin, Zoe McGlynn, Lauren Cregan (Aisling nee 62), Aishleen McGuinness (Lisa Campbell 58), Nicole Gordon.
