St Johnston’s Damien Duddy makes his professional debut tomorrow night when he faces the seasoned pro James Dunphy at Mayhem Martial Arts’ Showtime 6 event at the White Horse Hotel in Derry.

Duddy goes up against Carlow veteran Dunphy, who has 69 fights on his card, over five rounds at 69kgs.

Dunphy – fighting out of Top Pro in Carlow – has won 41 of his fights and has been the ISKA 5 Nations Champion at 70kgs as well as IKF kingpin at 64kgs and 66kgs, while he was the IFA 5 Nations Champion at 64.5kgs.

It will be a test of Duddy’s credentials, but the Mayhem ace is gunning for his big night.

He seems like a nice lad but I’ve a job to do and I’ll do it in style,” Duddy said.

Last November, Duddy ISKA 4 Nations crown when he overcame Ross Thompson from Leicester, also at the White Horse.

That was Duddy’s first title as a senior and he has won World and European titles as a Junior fighter.

Also among the 16-fight card is Abdul El Absy, who trained fighters at Peak Physique in Letterkenny.

El Absy returned to action in winning fashion a few weeks ago in Birmingham and he takes on Mark McCallion tomorrow night.

The 29-year-old El Absy has recently transitioned to K1 and it promises to be a belter against Mayhem’s McCallion.

Meanwhile, Vaidas Natkus, who is the head coach and owner at Senshi Martial Arts Academy in Donegal, comes up against Phil Townley from Bango.

Lithuanian Natkus, fighting under the moniker ‘The Beast From The East’, is a former ISKA K1 champion and is hopping to be in title contention very soon.

He takes on Townley, who lived in Thailand, where he fought professionally. He now owns Predator Muay Thai in Bangor.

Doors open at 6.30pm with action underway at 7pm. Tickets cost £20 or £10 for under-18s. Tickets are available from Mayhem or at the door.
