Donegal Mountain Rescue has located the walkers on Mount Errigal and they are safe and well.

At 6pm the team were on standby for walkers who were in need of assistance on Donegal’s highest peak. Members of the rescue crew are on site communicating with the walkers.

Donegal Mountain Rescue told Donegal Daily that the walkers have been located safe and well and were escorted back to their vehicle.

The team stood down within the past hour.

Conditions at the snow-capped peak are bitterly cold and frosty. A yellow weather warning for snow and ice is currently in place by Met Éireann, and is valid until tomorrow morning.

Temperatures are expected to dip to -1 degrees tonight, with frost and icy patches expected to form.
