Relief as every Donegal island home to be fitted with fire safety kit

Every island home across Donegal is to get a fire safety kit.

More than 500 households on islands such as Arranmore and Tory are to be fitted with a fire extinguisher (2kg Dry Powder), carbon monoxide alarm and fire blanket.

This comes in addition to smoke detectors which have been distributed to islands over the past two years.

The plan is part of the “Island Communities Fire Safety Programme.”

The programme will be officially launched at Gaoth Dobhair Fire Station at 2.00pm on Thursday 7th December.

In addition to the equipment, training in the use of extinguishers and fire blankets will be provided in early 2018.

The provision of the above equipment and training in this Fire Safety Programme is the continued fire safety approach which has been delivered to the Island communities over the past number of years.
