The young man who lost his life after being struck by a car outside Dunfanaghy yesterday has been named as Sean Heraghty from Scotland.

The young man, who worked as a quantity surveyor in Glasgow, died after being hit by a car at Sandhill on the outskirts of the village around 4.15am.

The popular young man’s family were originally from Falcarragh and they had a holiday home in Dunfanaghy.

The victim had come over to Donegal to celebrate the festive season and was along with his mum Margaret and other members of the family.

Mr Heraghty was struck as he walked home to his family’s holiday home.

Gardai have a launched a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision.

Prayers were said at local mass yesterday morning and it is understood Sean will be waked for at least one night in Donegal.

There has been a huge outpouring of grief locally following the accident which resulted in Sean’s tragic death.

Local county councillor Seamus O Domhnaill said the young man’s death was even more poignant considering it was Christmas and that such a tragedy would visit his family and the local community.

He asked people to keep Sean and his family in their prayers.
