The Mayor of Letterkenny has appealed for a long-term flooding solution for a local housing estate.

Parts of Glenwood estate is again under water tonight, following the heavy rainfall which is still continuing.

Mayor Jimmy Kavanagh said Donegal County Council has responded gallantly to the problem.

“I have been in touch with the council engineers and I would like to thank them for their speedy response to my request to have help sent to the affected homes and residents.”

However, he added that a long-term solution neds to be found.

“Irish water needs to prioritise the work on Circular Road that would alleviate this problem long term, it is very difficult for residents to continually have to endure flooding in the estate and a permanent solution needs to be prioritised.”
