Job Vacancy: Social Care Worker required by new children’s centre

Job Vacancy: Brighter Futures For Children is currently seeking to recruit a Social Care Worker in North Donegal.

Brighter Futures for Children (BFC) Ltd aims to help children overcome developmental trauma resulting from adverse childhood experiences such as neglect and child abuse.

BFC specialises in the provision of therapeutic communities wherein children enjoy positive nurturing relationships with supportive adults. For this reason, all staff are expected to undertake therapeutic training and continuous personal therapy throughout the life time of their employment with BFC.

Additionally, BFC will commission and provide evidence-informed therapeutic intervention that have demonstrated effectiveness in assisting traumatized to heal.

Social Care Worker

Essential Criteria:

  • BSc in Applied Social Studies; Applied Social Science; Applied Social Studies in Social Care, Professional Development Social Work or Youth and Community Work or equivalent Level 7 qualification.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ full-time direct experience of working with children within a residential care setting or 3 years full-time working with children deemed to be at risk and subject to Care Orders or named on a Child Protection Order.
  • Knowledge of the Irish National Standards in Children’s Residential Centres
  • A clean full driving licence valid in the Republic of Ireland and UK.

 

Brief Job Description:

  • Providing a Key-Worker role to traumatized children residing within the residential therapeutic community to ensure positive outcomes.
  • Work effectively as part of a social care staff team and demonstrate a commitment to ongoing personal and professional development.
  • Ensuring that social care/therapeutic interventions are delivered appropriately to children in accordance with guidance set by Social Care Manager.
  • Abide by health & safety requirements consistently.
  • Work on a rota basis including overnights and weekend cover.
  • Adhere to and complete administrative responsibilities in a timely manner.

  • Ability to apply evidence-informed practice appropriately.
  • Ability to identify, rationalize and apply theoretical knowledge to enhance best practice and best outcomes.
  • Ability to plan and deliver care in an effective and resourceful manner within a person-centred model of care. 
  • Ability to manage self and prioritise workload in a busy working environment. 
  • Ability to demonstrate a commitment to high standards of practice and strive to create a meaningful person-centred model of care. 
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative and innovation in identifying areas for service improvement 
  • Ability to display awareness and appreciation of the children as ‘experts through experience’.
  • Ability to actively promote the involvement of the children in care planning, decision-making and service development 
  • Ability to empathise with and treat others with dignity and respect 
  • Ability to evaluate information and make effective decisions especially about the care of children 
  • Ability to display effective interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written). 
  • Ability to demonstrate effective team working skills 
  • Ability to demonstrate flexibility and openness to change 
  • Ability to demonstrate a consistent willingness to attend individual therapy and group-based therapy 
  • Ability to demonstrate a consistent commitment to the therapeutic community ethos 
  • Ability to demonstrate an ability to utilise supervision effectively 
  • Ability to demonstrate a willingness to develop IT skills relevant to the role 
  • Ability to demonstrate a commitment to continuing professional and personal development

 

Desirable Criteria for Post:

  • Diploma/certificate in child counselling/psychotherapy. 
  • Diploma/certificate in therapeutic counselling. 
  • Diploma/certificate in trauma counselling/interventions. 
  • Diploma/certificate in play therapy.
