DONEGAL are currently 2-9 to 0-10 up at half-time against Monaghan in a lively Dr McKenna Cup fixture in Clones.

The original meeting of the sides was postponed seven days ago with part of the pitch at St Tiernach’s Park frozen.

This afternoon, in a very open affair, Declan Bonner, the Donegal manager, will be content with a decent first half against a strong wind.

Odhrán MacNiallais scored the first goal of the game when he finished off a move that involved Nathan Mullins and Caolan McGonagle on seven minutes and Ryan McHugh slapped home a second following a pass from Jamie Brennan on 28.

Patrick McBrearty also has five points to his name.

Shaun Patton from Letterkenny made a first appearance for Donegal and Jack McCarron has been Monaghan’s standout player with four first half points.

The winner of this afternoon’s fixture will qualify for the semi-final to take on Armagh or Derry on Wednesday night.

Full report to follow at full-time …
