Listen: ‘We never performed’ says Naomh Colmcille boss Ryan McKinley

Ryan McKinley cut to the chase as he assessed Naomh Colmcille’s All-Ireland JFC defeat to Knocknagree.

Deep in Cusack Park, Mullingar, McKinley gazed enviously through the tunnel as Knocknagree toasted their ticket to Croke Park after a 2-9 to 0-7 win.

“We never performed in the first 20 or 25 minutes,” McKinley said.

“If we had sneaked a wee goal we could have been in it. The bounce of the ball just weren’t there. It was one of those days and Knocknagree are a fine side.”

James Dennehy netted after six minutes and in the latter stages of the first half John F Daly rattled the net as Knocknagree took a firm grip.

McKinley said: “We couldn’t get to the pace of the game. There were personal mistakes and 2-3 out of the 2-4 they got in the first half were personal errors.

‘At half-time, we just wanted a performance. We didn’t perform in the first half. The two goals were the killers, especially the one before half-time.”
