An off-season of just FIVE DAYS – Price of success laid bare for Donegal club

The length of the club season and the demands on the GAA’s club players are well documented of late – and Naomh Colmcille are sure to agree that something has to change!

Naomh Colmcille were beaten by Knocknagree in Saturday’s All-Ireland JFC semi-final in Mullingar.

It brought an end to their historic season, in which they won the Donegal and Ulster Junior titles, and made it to within an hour of Croke Park.

The defeat to the Cork champions drew a close to their long 2017 campaign.

Ryan McKinley’s men had the wheels in motion as far out as December 2016 when they began their gym sessions, they were doing track sessions in January and were on the pitch for their first session on February 19th.

All that work was only over on Saturday when the final whistle shrilled in Cusack Park.

A well-deserved break, you might think, would be in order, but with the new season around the corner and Naomh Colmcille determined to win promotion out of Division 4 the wheel can’t stop turning.

Just five days after ending one season, another will begin with a players’ meeting for the 2018 season called for Thursday night.
