Poll: Should electric shock collars be banned?

written by Elaine McCallig January 28, 2018

The ISPCA has called on the Irish government to introduce a ban on electric shock collars after the collars have been banned in Scotland and Wales.

The ISPCA argue that the collars can cause distress and pain to dogs, and can cause behavioural problems.

Instead, they say that owners should opt for reward based training as opposed to negative reinforcement (aversive) training methods.

Some dog owners argue that the collars are useful for boundary training and can deter pets from straying onto dangerous roads etc, however others say it is cruel and unnecessary.
