Picture special: St Brigid’s Cross making in Termon

Members of the Termon community participated in the traditional St Brigid’s Cross making at Sean Scoil An Tearmainn.

Father Pat McHugh, PP Termon, was on hand to bless the crosses and give a brief history of the St Brigid’s Crosses and Bratog Bríde.

Legend has it that St Brigid requested sufficient land to build a convent in County Kildare.

A non-sympathetic landlord was amused by the request and he indicated  rather than a refusal he would give her what her cloak would cover.

St  Brigid took off her cloak and as she did so it spread out in a mysterious manner and covered sufficient land for her to build her convent.
