Shane Blaney in Doncaster squad for Portsmouth clash

Just two-and-a-half weeks after signing for the club, Shane Blaney has been included in Doncaster Rovers’ first team squad for today’s Sky Bet League One clash with Portsmouth at Fratton Park.

The 19-year-old signed for Doncaster from Finn Harps last month, penning a two-and-a-half-year contract at the Keepmoat Stadium.

The former Republic of Ireland schoolboys captain has made the long journey to Portsmouth with Darren Ferguson’s squad.

It is his first time to be on the first-team panel.

Rovers are looking to get back to winning ways against ninth-placed Portsmouth and welcome back Alex Kiwomya and Luke McCullough.

“It is a long journey down to Portsmouth and anyone that goes down there knows that they are not going to get an easy game that’s for sure,” said Ferguson

“They are club that has some fantastic support with great atmosphere, but I think that will be good thing for us, the way we start the game will be important and I’m looking forward to it.

“They lost their last game at home against Shrewsbury in the league, they have brought in a few players in the window and it will be a hard game against a very experienced manager who has his sides very organised.”
