Donegal manager Declan Bonner retains top role in his club

Donegal manager Declan Bonner hasn’t let the hectic schedule that comes with being an inter-county boss impact on his involvement at his club.

Last Friday night, in McCready’s Bar in Lettermacaward, Bonner was elected as the Na Rossa Chairman.

The club are in the process of developing a new base at Madavagh and Bonner has been the Chairman now or some time. Alongside Michael Duddy and Kevin McCready, Bonner is one of the central players in the project.

But having been appointed as the new Donegal senior manager, the workload of being a club chairman might have been too vast.

“I want to see out the development of the new pitch,” Bonner said.

“It looks like we’ll have the project completed in 2018.

“I’ve been Chairman now for a good number of years. It’s tough to keep a club going in a small, rural area and it has many challenge, but you just have to do it.

“Your club is always your club. It’s hard to get volunteers in, but we’re getting there. We work off a small pool of players and a small pool of people, too.”
