The Department of Education has sanctioned a grant of €43,000 for emergency works at Acres National School, Burtonport.

The money will be spent on the development of a play area and on a boundary wall.

Deputy Pat the Cope Gallagher has welcomed the grant.

He said “Following numerous representations by me to the Department and having had the opportunity to recently visit the school, I am glad to be in a position to confirm the approval of this grant- the funding will sort out the issues concerning works which are urgently required at the school.

He added the grant approved today will cover the costs for the construction of a new boundary wall and play area at the school with additional landscaping.

“The funding will be of immense benefit to the school and I expect the works to commence as soon as the school authorities can arrange for the necessary contracts to be approved.

“I wish to compliment the school Principal and Staff as well as the Board of Management who run an excellent school in Acres at Burtonport. The funding will now allow them to carry out without further delay the works at the school,” said Deputy Gallagher.
