Approximately 270 volunteer members of the Civil Defence have been tasked to assist the Primary Response Agencies during Storm Emma.
Six Donegal volunteers, equipped with two 4×4 vehicles, assisted nursing staff and patients as heavy snowfall impacted areas across the county.
The volunteers transported home care support workers in the Dungloe, Falcarragh and Ardara areas, and ferried triage nursing staff to Letterkenny University Hospital.
They also took patients from Falcarragh to LUH for Renal Dialysis.
A housebound patient was also assisted by the Civil Defence and transported to Falcarragh Nursing Unit.
In some of the most severely impacted counties such as Dublin, Civil Defence volunteers had to recover people from stranded cars, transport essential medical personnel to hospital, and deliver hundreds of Meals on Wheels.
