Veronica McCarron of ‘Britan’s Got Talent’ fame has come on board to conduct Donegal’s first ever ‘Choir of ages’ and those interested in taking part are being urged to get in touch with the organisers.

Mairead Cranley, Donegal County Council’s Social Inclusion Officer said this is a really exciting initiative.

“It is all about forming our own Choir of ages but in our own Donegal style and we are calling it Ceol le Chéile. This is an intergenerational project where we are inviting children and older people to come along and take part in the choir and we are delighted to have Veronica McCarron on board.

“Veronica is a retired Choral Director from the Presentation Secondary School Kilkenny, also well known for leading an outstanding Choir performance on Britain’s Got Talent in 2016”.

“We are inviting older people and children from the ages of 7 to 12 years to get involved. The Choir will be based in Letterkenny and transport arrangements will also be made available from different parts of the county”.

This initiative is being rolled out as part of the Donegal Age Friendly Strategy which is all about enhancing the health and well being of those living in Donegal.

“Music is a wonderful and uplifting way of bringing people together and music is known to have strong therapeutic benefits in terms of mental and emotional health. The choir is being called “Ceol le Chéile” which means coming together to sing, we want to form a choir to bring older people and younger people together” says Mairead Cranley.

If you would like to take part in “Ceol le Chéile” choir contact Mairead Cranley, or Maíre Ní Fherraigh, Donegal County Council on 074 91 53900 or email mairead.cranley@donegalcoco.ie or mairenifh@donegalcoco.ie
