Donegal League to probe postponement of Moss Road derby at Moyle View

The Donegal League’s disciplinary committee will discuss a Premier Division game today that was postponed half-an-hour before kick-off.

The Premier Division clash between Milford United and Rathmullan Celtic was called off by match referee Paddy Martin upon his arrival at Moyle View Park.

The official’s explanation for his decision was that the ball wouldn’t bounce sufficiently in a muddy area in the middle of the park, indicating that he was postponing the fixture with the safety of the participants in mind.

Although Moyle View was cut up in places, there was no surface water at the time and representatives of both times indicated a willingness to go ahead with the fixture.

A suggestion was made to switch the Moss Road derby to Rathmullan.

Milford manager Sean Sandilands was willing to have the game played at Flagpole Park, but the referee decided otherwise.

The League’s disciplinary body will now convene to deliberate on the circumstances.
