The former head of TG4 has been drafted in to resolve a dispute between the Government and Tory islanders.

Former CEO of the Irish langauge broadcaster, Pól Ó Gallchóir, has now been appointed to act as an intermediary in the dispute regarding the Tory ferry service.

Islanders claim that a new ferry due to come into operation on April 1st, the Queen of Aran, is not fit for the crossing.

The Government has promised that a new purpose-built ferry is planned for the island.

Mr Ó Gallchóir will be holding discussions with the various interested parties over the coming week, and he will deliver his report to the Department and the Comharchumann within the next week and a half or so.

The Department says it will not be making any further comment on this matter until this process has been completed.
