St Eunan’s take the points from Milford in Division 1

ST EUNAN’S MADE it two wins from two in the All-County Football League Division 1 courtesy of a five-point win in Milford today.

Milford 1-9 St Eunan’s 1-14

The Letterkenny side added to their 0-12 to 0-7 victory over Glenswilly on Good Friday with a decent showing against a lively enough Milford team, who were left to rue some missed chances while Cathal McGettigan also saw Shaun Patton save his first half penalty.

McGetttigan, though, was in decent form and kicked eight points in all and although Danny O’Donnell’s did get ahead briefly before half-time, it was St Eunan’s who eventually put the contest to bed when substitute Sean Halvey struck a  late goal.

Jamie Doherty and Lee McMonagle scored the first two points of the day but when Patton in the St Eunan’s goal misjudged a long ball in from Darragh Black in the ninth minute, Milford grabbed a goal as the ball nestled in the net.

That kicked started the hosts, who were reliant on the abilities of McGettigan as they stayed in touch and even went ahead, before going in at the break one down at 0-9 to 1-5.

Niall O’Donnell and Rory Kavanagh were doing the damage for St Eunan’s in the scoring stakes and both would finish the day with three points apiece from play.

Milford were awarded a penalty by referee Aidan McAleer in the 23rd minute when Conor Moore was penalised for a push in the back of Kane Barrett. However, Patton saved McGettigan’s spot kick and the Milford forward could only smash the rebound over with the goal yawning.

In the second half, Conor Gibbons scored twice to put St Eunan’s three up but three more McGettigan efforts brought Milford back on terms at 1-8 to 0-11 with just 10 minutes to go.

But it would be Maxi Curran’s team who would take the points. Niall O’Donnell edged them ahead and then, after a concerted spell of possession, Halvey netted having been set up by Darragh Mulgrew. Late points from Caolan Ward and Gibbons settled it.
