Large crowds are expected in Castlefinn this Sunday, the 29th of April, as the Robert Emmets GAA Club host their Centenary 5k Fun Run/Walk.

The event is being organised as part of the year-long series of events to celebrate the foundation of the GAA in the Parish of Castlefinn.

Club Chairman Colm Gallagher has appealed for everyone in the community to make a special effort to support Sunday’s event.

Speaking today he said: “2018 is a momentous year in the history of our Club as we celebrate our Centenary Year. We are immensely proud that our Club has reached this milestone and Sunday’s 5K is an opportunity for everyone in the community to come down to the Club House after the race, have a cup of tea and see the facilities we have here.

“And we hope that these Centenary events will inspire people to get involved with any of the activities we offer here at Robert Emmets, from football to music lessons to our Scór teams.”

Centenary Committee Chairman Gary Doherty pointed out that the event is open to runners and walkers of all ages and abilities.

He said: “Apart from one hill near the start of the route, the majority of the course is flat or downhill so we are encouraging everybody to come along, from seasoned 5k runners to casual walkers. Everybody is welcome and there will be a cup of tea and some baked goodies at the finish line to top it off.

“Our local businesses have also kindly sponsored spot prizes for our entrants, and we are grateful as always to them for their ongoing support.”

Registration for the event opens at 10am in the Robert Emmets Club House, where parking is also available. Entry fee is €8 or €20 for a family of four and all proceeds are going towards the Robert Emmets Centenary celebrations.
