Eamonn Doherty relishes a good old fashioned tussle and the Letterkenny man is raring for an assault on the 2018 Championship.
Donegal take on Cavan on Sunday in their first Championship outing since their annihilation by Galway last July; a game that brought the curtain down on Rory Gallagher’s tenure as Donegal manager.
Declan Bonner’s arrival has seen some of the shackles removed with Donegal somewhat more expansive so far in 2018.
“We conceded some big enough scores this year, but on the flip side our attack was excellent,” Doherty said.
“The whole thing is collective. I enjoy it a lot more.
“That competitiveness of man-marking someone, going at it for 70 minutes, I enjoy it. You kick yourself if they get a score. That’s the way I played at underage football and at the start of my football at senior level.”
In spite of relegation from Division 1 in the League, Doherty says Donegal are approaching Sunday with confidence high.
The St Eunan’s man said: “We’re just mad to get over training and this is the last week of it. It’s been going really well and preparation has been really positive over the last six weeks. We’re looking forward to Sunday. The nerves will come, but that’s a good sign. We’re in a good position squad wise.”
