Donegal woman is “fizzing” with hope for quirky cancer fundraiser

An Inishowen woman is using plenty of ‘fizz’ to help her raise vital funds to combat cancer.

Mary Gallagher from Malin has started a campaign using Lucozade bottles to collect unwanted 20 cent coins.

And now her campaign ‘Let Your 20 cent Change Make A Change’ has really taken off.

She recently lodged over €1,100 directly to the Irish Cancer Society Research Department and hopes to add to that figure.

Mary explained “This is a simple fundraiser in which we are asking everyone to put their 20cent coins into a Lucozade bottle. When one of these bottles is full, it will hold €60.

“The money raised will go directly to Cancer Research. We realise that there are many equally important charities out there and that is why we are only asking for 20c.

“These bottles have been placed throughout businesses in Inishowen and many families have also taken a bottle for their own homes.”

Now Mary is looking to extend her campaign so that the bottles can be placed in shops, clubs, bars and private homes across all of Donegal.

She added “We are hoping to spread this fundraiser all throughout Donegal and maybe even further! We are asking if anyone would like to come on board and help to distribute and collect the bottles in their local areas, outside of Inishowen. We also encourage families to take a bottle for their homes or clubs.”

“So far, over €1,100 has been lodged directly to the Irish Cancer Society Research Department. We hope that with the help of Donegal residents, we can add to this figure.”

If anyone would like to get involved in any way or has any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Mary -0861660329.

REMEMBER your CHANGE can make a CHANGE.
