Double bronze for Joshua Magee in Lithuania

Raphoe’s Joshua Magee was toasting bronze on the double at the Lithuanian International this weekend.

Magee, a younger brother of triple Olympian Chloe, won bronze in the men’s singles and also in the men’s doubles with his partner Paul Reynolds.

Magee and Reynolds won two games yesterday to advance in the doubles.

After defeating Poland’s Konrad Ploch and Dominik Zietek 21-11 17-21 21-10, they were also victorious against Denmark’s Rasmus Esperson and Sebastian Gronbjerg 21-18 21-15

However, they were beaten by Russian pair Egor Kurdyukov and Egor Okolov 18-21 21-13 21-15.

In the singles, Magee defeated England’s David Jones on Friday 21-14 21-23 21-18 before overcoming Belgian Julien Carraggi 24-22 22-20 and another Belgian Elias Bracke 23-21 21-13.

Today, Magee pressed number one seed Felix Burestedt from Sweden all the way, but lost out 20-22 21-13 21-15.

In the women’s singles, Rachael Darragh lost out to Alesia Zaitsava 21-9 21-11.

In the mixed doubles, Darragh and Reynolds overcame Americans Pedro Arturo Garcia-Flores and Jacqueline Wendy Myers 21-6 21-13, but Ukraine’s Artem Tkachuk and Anna Mikhalkova overcame them 23-21 20-22 21-19
