Shay Given will take up a new role as the head goalkeeping coach at Derby County.
Given, capped 134 times by the Republic of Ireland, has been recruited by new Derby boss Frank Lampard, who succeeded Gary Rowett at Pride Park last month.
The 42-year-old has been completing his coaching badges and hasn’t played since leaving Stoke City last year.
“I know Shay and his standing in the game as a goalkeeper and he’s right up there at the very top,” Lampard said.
“I know Shay and his standing in the game as a goalkeeper and he’s right up there at the very top,” the former Chelsea midfielder told the club’s website.
“He’s had many, many, years as a top goalkeeper. Performance wise he was incredible and he has now achieved his goalkeeper coaching license.
“I’m very pleased to have Shay as part of the team and not just for what he will bring as a goalkeeper coach, but what he will also bring to the dressing room in a much broader scheme.”Tags:
