Listen: Eamonn Doherty on Donegal’s competitive edge ahead of Dublin trip

Eamonn Doherty feels a real competitive edge in training as Donegal ready themselves for Saturday evening’s Super 8 clash with Dublin in Croke Park.

Although Donegal will head for GAA headquarters minus their talisman, Patrick McBrearty, the Ulster champions appear in positive minds as they get set for a showdown with the three-in-a-row All-Ireland champions.

“We’re very lucky with the competitiveness in it,” Doherty said.

“We’ve been talking about the young fellas all year, but they’re playing with no fear. They might be marking Michael or Frank and they just want to tear into them.”

Doherty got plenty of game time in the Allianz League, but hasn’t started in the Championship. The St Eunan’s man says the entire squad is ready for a slice of action.

He said: “I’ve got a few appearances, but I have’t started any Championship games. You need to stay positive and know that you could be called on at any moment. You have to be ready when your chance comes.

“There’s no-one resting on laurels in the squad. You have to be ambitious. You need to be selfish, put your hand up and say: ‘I want to play and I’m not here to be a tag-along.’”
