A second person has now died following the capsizing of a boat off Co Donegal this afternoon.

A 16-year-old youth, the first person to be rescued off Malin Head Pier, passed away at Altnegelvin Hospital in Derry.

He was from Derry but had strong connections with the Inishowen area.

His death followed the passing of another man in his mid 60s who died after being taken to Letterkenny University Hospital following the incident.

A third man, who is in his 50s and also from Derry, is also in Altnegelvin Hospital where his condition is understood to be stable.

All three had been out fishing after leaving Malin Pier around noon.

The men had been in the water for a number of hours before their cries for help were heard by people at a nearby cottage around 4pm.

A huge search and rescue operation was launched leading to the men’s recovery.
