Aaron Doherty and Ryan Gillespie were the heroes for Naomh Columba as they overcame Seán Mac Cumhaills in Ballybofey today.

Seán Mac Cumhaill’s 2-15 Naomh Columba 5-10

Mac Cumhaills got off to a disastrous start and were 2-1 down after seven minutes of play with goals from Gillespie and Tadhg Mc Ginley and a point from play by Christopher Byrne.

A converted Stephen Mulligan free and a goal got the hosts off the mark followed by a Gary Wilson point but Naomh Columba would tag on another point from the foot of Michael Maguire shortly after.

Aaron Doherty who was in deadly form for the visitors put over a free but Mac Cumhaills responded from Gavin Gallagher. Aaron Kelly and Wilson took the Glen lead down to a single point but another Gillespie free and a converted penalty by Aaron Doherty had the Glen men going in five points up at half time, 3-4 to 1-5.

Stephen Mulligan (free), Gavin Gallagher and Darren O’Leary fired over for Mac Cumhaills with McNern and Aaron Doherty pointing for Naomh Columba. Aaron Doherty would fire past Mac Cumhaill’s keeper Chris Patton on 41 minutes and follow up with a point soon after.

Mac Cumhaills, now falling eight points behind would have to rally and points from Wilson, O’Leary, one from play and one free would claw the deficit back but another Aaron Doherty point and goal from Kevin McNearn would further heap the pressure on the home side.

Oisin Gallen and Wilson went on to point from play and O’Leary converted a penalty along with two frees but Gillespie would finish out the game with another two points to inflict the first back to back defeat on Mac Cumhaills this season.

Seán Mac Cumhaills Scorers: Darren O’Leary (1.5 3f), Stephen Mulligan (1.2 2f), Gary Wilson (0.4), Gavin Gallagher (0.2) Aaron Kelly (0.1), Oisin Gallen (0.1)
