Pictured is David Roche, Head of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in Pramerica and Sensei Christopher O’Donnell of Letterkenny Shotokan Karate Club.

One of Pramerica’s CSR objectives is to help Communities foster development of “Youth in Sport” activities. In his capacity he has presented €300 cheque to the club.

Letterkenny Shotokan Karate Club is the oldest running Karate club in Ireland and goes back well over 50 years.

Christopher, who is employed with Pramerica as a Specialist, in IT Service Management, started his Karate career with Letterkenny Shotokan Karate in 1989.

Returning in 2015 after many years away he achieved his Shodan (1st) Black Belt in 2016. He is currently training for his Nidan (2nd) which he hopes to achieve summer of 2019.

He is heavily focused on traditional Shotokan Karate and teaches the Wednesday night class (7-8pm) in the Aura while Sensei John Wilkie takes the Saturday class (12.30-1.30pm).

A new senior grade Monday night class will commence soon in September/October. We will be returning to our spiritual home venue of Letterkenny Community Centre for this new senior class.

Several Pramerica parents have children that currently attend the club and membership is roughly 50 students presently.

In Karate one learns the values in building character.

The benefit to children is a place to interact, have fun, learn discipline, achieve goals, understand the essential winning and losing process, release frustration, practice patience and restraint. Karate is one of the few disciplines where a total body workout is achieved as every muscle in the body is used.

For further information please feel free to contact Christopher or John through the Facebook page; Letterkenny Shotokan Karate Club. Ages from 5 and no upper limit. Cost €5 per person. Families of two or more flat rate of €10.
