An award-winning Donegal Town restaurant is celebrating another remarkable success this week at A Taste of Donegal Food Festivial.

The chefs of Chandpur Indian Restaurant have picked up their 8th Gold Medal in a row in the ‘A Passion to Inspire’ competition. This year, Chef Shah Sultan took the prize.

This contest sees judges visiting local restaurants to see chefs demonstrate their culinary skills in their own kitchens.

At Chandpur, Chef Rana Miah entered the Chefs competition in 2010 for the first time and got a silver medal. In 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 Rana got a Gold Medal and also he got Overall Runner Up in 2014 and Overall Champion in 2015.

Rana handed the task over to his cousin Chef Shah Sultan, who has won a Gold Medal in 2016, 2017, 2018.

Chef Sultan’s achievement this year is another boost for Chandpur, which has earned a place in the TripAdvisor Hall of Fame for having 5 Stars 5 years in a row.

Susan Miah of Chandpur said: “The standard is so high, to get a Gold Medal you have to score between 90 and 100 with the Judges, so to achieve this for 8 years in a row proves how wonderfully consistent our two Chefs are.”

“The judges visit our restaurant on Thursday, the night before the Festival opens every year. We are always very busy and our Chef has to prepare a special menu for them and also prepare food for the whole restaurant too, so to be able to win Gold every year under this pressure, proves how successful they are,” said Susan.
