Councillors in Letterkenny have hit out at Irish Water for refusing to meet them over disruptions in the town.
Councillors met with Irish Water today at the Public Services Centre to express their concerns.
Cllr Gerry Mc Monagle said it was a very frank but cordial meeting.
He revealed “Members raised their anger at continually being refused meetings by Irish Water in relation to concerns raised by local businesses and the community in Letterkenny as to the effect the disruptions that will happen when the works begin.
“We got a commitment from Irish Water that whilst they recognised that disruptions would occur they will aspire to keep disruptions to a minimum. With a promise to do the works on the High Road in the main at night.”
Members also raised the matter of water and sewage treatment plants many of whom are obsolete and not fit for purpose.
Cllr McMOnagle added “We impressed upon them the need to develop a strategy to deal with these. This they also gave a commitment to do. Concerns were also raised about the length of time its taking to connect the Bonagee/Dromore area to the main sewer and the continual Bursts on the Water Main between Fahan And Bridgend was also raised by Senator Padraig Mac Lochlainn.”
There was also an agreement that councillors will meet again with Irish water soon to get further updates when necessary.
