Listen: John Cunningham on Division 3 win as Killybegs get ready for Kilcar

Of all the opponents, Kilcar is always the one to get the blood pumping in Killybegs – and that will be no different this Sunday.

As fate decreed, Kilcar will begin the defence of their first Donegal SFC title in 24 years in Fintra, at the home of their fierce cross-parish rivals.

John Cunningham played in the halcyon days of the late 80s and early-mid 90s when the south-west ruled Donegal’s roost.

Now, ‘Razda’ is manager of Killybegs, who were confirmed as Division 3 champions at the weekend.

“We’re delighted,” Cunningham said.

“We were very disappointed last year to be relegated to Division 3 so we set the stall out this year to get promoted again.”

With Kilcar in town on Sunday, they have had little time to toast the Division 3 crown.

Cunningham added: “We’re looking forward to it and we’re positive about it. We’re not looking too far ahead. We haven’t really spoken about Championship yet. We have an inexperienced group. Our expectations mightn’t be great, but we expect our players to perform at the same time.”
