The Open Competition took place on Tuesday, August 28 and even though the weather turned nasty in the evening there was a good entry.
Two of the junior girls featured in the winners’ enclosure. No doubt they were delighted to pick up a few prizes before their studies resume and golf has to curtailed for a while.
Pauline Doherty from Century Cinemas got a great welcome when she came along to the club to present the prizes and the ladies branch are most grateful for the very generous sponsorship.
Some of the ladies were encouraging Pauline to make a return to golf herself but there was no commitment forthcoming.
Full Results: Winner Sarah McBrearty, 36pts. Runner-up Eileen Williamson, 33pts. Gross, Marian O Sullivan, 25 gross points. Third, Caoimhe Lafferty, 32pts.
Visitor Sally Sparrow, 26pts. Front nine, Maura Cavanagh, 21pts. Back nine, Pauline Curley, 15pts(bot).
Anne Cannon this year’s Captain of the Hospital Golf Society sponsored a nine-hole competition for the lady members on Friday, August 31, and the winners were in fourth place Angela Bradley 17pts(bot) third place Anne Flannery 17pts(bot) runner-up Rena O Herlihy, 17pts (bot) and Winner Mary Ellen McNulty, 18pts.
The Lady Captain’s outing will be on Saturday 15th – full details on the Forum page on Facebook but you must book your place by Friday, September 7.
The Mary McDaid Cup will be played in Portsalon on Saturday, September 8, and we wish the Lady Captain and her team the best of luck in this lovely friendly competition between neighbouring golf clubs.
The Past Captains is on Sunday 9th and there will be tea and coffee at 12.30pm in the clubhouse followed by the draw at 1pm for the nine and 18 hole competitions. This will be followed by dinner at 7pm.
There will be a Ladies and Gents Open next Tuesday, September 11.
