Lifford Strabane AC had a total of 12 athletes in action over the course of the week representing the club at two races.

Friday, September 7 saw a large turnout of almost 250 runners & up to 100 walkers for the Jim Shiels Memorial 10k Race & 3K Walk with all proceeds of this event being donated to The Letterkenny Oncology Unit & The Donegal Hospice.

As previously reported, this was not just a big race, but it proved to be a quality race producing a great race for both runners & spectators alike.

Lifford Strabane AC was represented by eight male & three female senior athletes at this road race.

For the senior males, it was the ever-improving Kenny Melaugh that led the troops to the finish line. This has to have been this athletes’ best race to date finishing a very impressive 13th overall, running a personal best in an incredible time of 34:57.

Taking 1 minute 25 seconds off his previous personal best time over this distance. Lifford Strabane AC would personally like to congratulate Kenny on the achievement.

Philip Kelly was next to the finish line for the club in 44:33 followed closely by Kevin McMenamin in a time of 44:38.

Bill Duncan 47:33, Ciarán McCauley 48:10, Michael McCurdy Senior ran a personal best in a time of 50:04, Eddie Breslin 55:17 & Graham Neilands 58:10.

For the senior ladies, it was the consistent Claire Keys that led the rest of the best home.

This athlete also ran a personal best in a superb time of 47:42 winning the F40+ Category and was the first local lady finisher. Lifford Strabane AC would personally like to congratulate Clare on the achievement.

Olivia Cuskelly was next to the line for the senior female athletes in 54:15 followed by Catherine Breslin in 55:18.

Sunday, September 9 it was off to Newcastle, England for senior club athlete Paul Mc Namee for the 38th Great North Run which had an astonishing 57,000 runners taking part in the famous 13.1 UK half marathon.

Paul completed this event in a fine time of 1:52:08. Lifford Strabane AC would personally like to congratulate Paul on the achievement.
