Our tightest poll yet! Just TWO votes in it as young Finn Harps ace is latest Sports Person of the Week

This week’s was our tightest poll ever for the Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub Sports Person of the Week, in association with O’Reilly’s – and just TWO votes separated the leading contenders.

Daragh Ellison, the Finn Harps Under-17 captain, sneaked through with 969 votes.

A titanic voting battle between Daragh and Gaeil Fhánada star Lauren Carr took place over the last few days.

The lead exchanged hands a few times and Lauren remained ahead by around a dozen votes until the final half-an-hour, when Ellison inched in front.

It was just as he had done last weekend, when he popped up with an 87th minute penalty to win the Mark Farren Cup final for the Finn Harps U17s against Cork City at Finn Park.

Daragh pulled 969 votes with 967 voting for Lauren, who was Player of the Match last Sunday when Gaeil Fhánada overcame Naomh Muire in the Donegal Junior Ladies Championship final.

It was our tightest ever poll and the 3,126 was the largest poll yet in week ten of the Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport HubSports Person of the Week, in association with O’Reilly’s.

Spare a thought for the third placed person, Erin Fildara, whose 467 votes would have been enough to win a handful of the previous weeks’ polls.

Each weekly award winner will receive a kitbag, a jersey and a half-zip, supplied by O’Reilly’s.

O’Reilly’s Sportswear was founded in 2017 by well-known Twin Towns sporting brothers Steven and Martin O’Reilly.
