Major protest march planned for Letterkenny University Hospital

A Donegal lobby group is asking people to march on Letterkenny University Hospital.

The Still Waiting Health Campaign will be hosting a public meeting on the 20th of September in The Mount Errigal Letterkenny at 7:30pm to discuss the issue.

The group is asking everyone who marched against the overcrowding in Letterkenny University Hospital early this year to attend.

In a statement, SWHC spokesman Cyril Brennan said “We are bringing together health campaigns, trade unions and political groups to demand health reform.

“We are moving to the next stage of action and this is the first time that many health groups have come together to unite in a call to bring people onto the streets on October 6th, over the state of our health service.

“Up to now, individual groups have run defensive campaigns about saving services in their area.

“But there is now a growing realisation that we need a common national focus as the health crisis is affecting every community.”

He pointed out that one million people are now waiting for a procedure, the INMO trolley figures recorded the worst August on record this year and we are already starting to see figures increasing in Letterkenny Hospital.

Cyril continued, “Without commitment to health reform and a commitment to increase spending in the upcoming budget the trolley crisis will continue to get worse”
