Our panel have chosen this week’s Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub SFC Team of the Week from the latest round of games.
Gaoth Donhair – who had a big 0-12 to 0-6 win against Naomh Conaill in Magheragallon – lead the way with four players on the final selection.
There are three players from Glenswilly and two apiece from Ardara and Malin.
Sean MacCumhaills, Kilcar, St Eunan’s and St Michael’s are also represented.
Christopher Sweeney (Gaoth Dobhair)
Kept a clean sheet as Gaoth Dobhair defeated Naomh Conaill by double scores in Maghergallon. Had one hairy moment with a kick-out in the first half, but his re-starts were flawless that apart and showed good variety to keep Naomh Conaill guessing.
John Ross Molloy (Ardara)
Popped up from corner-back to strike the key goal at Hibernian Park as Ardara defeated Burt. Molloy’s goal came after being teed up by Danny Walsh in the 21st minute. Molloy’s finish was excellent and was the icing on a fine hour for Molloy.
Eamonn Ward (Glenswilly)
Won a mountain of possession for Glenswilly in their win over Bundoran. The Monaghan native has been a central player for Glenswilly for some years now and he was to the fore at Pairc Naomh Columba.
Gary McFadden (Gaoth Dobhair)
McFadden was given the job of marking Naomh Conaill danger man Ciaran Thompson. The sticky Gaoth Dobhair defender kept Thompson scoreless from play and restricted his influence on the game completely.
Kieran Doherty (Malin)
Moved back to wing-back for Malin’s game against Termon on Saturday evening, having been at midfield last weekend, Doherty had a superb hour at half-back. The powerful running Doherty gave his side a platform for a big win.
Daire Ó Baoill (Gaoth Dobhair)
Much of Gaoth Dobhair’s play was fed through Ó Baoill, who served as one of their main arteries for setting off attacks. Ó Baoill showed just why he is rated as one to watch for the Donegal seniors with a controlled display.
Oisin Crawford (Glenswilly)
Scored two of the last three points as Glenswilly moved away from Bundoran on Sunday evening. Crawford was excellent at wing-back and contributed well to the scoreboard too, scoring three points in all.
Conor Classon (Ardara)
Followed up his last-gasp heroics against Glenswilly on the opening day with another big performance for Ardara in the win over Burt. Classon scored a point in Burt and went through a lot of work as Ardara recorded their second win.
Kieran Gillespie (Gaoth Dobhair)
Having had a big influence on proceedings in the win over St Eunan’s, Gillespie was commanding again for Gaoth Dobhair as they saw off Naomh Conaill. Came out on top in the aerial tussle – and was a real focal point for the west Donegal side.
Aaron Kelly (Sean MacCumhaills)
Scored a hat-trick in Sean MacCumhaills’ 3-12 to 0-15 win over Killybegs in Ballybofey. Kelly’s goals all came in the first half. After hitting the front with a penalty, Kelly added two in quick succession.
Mark McHugh (Kilcar)
In the absence of Patrick McBrearty and in the continuing absence of Ryan McHugh, Mark McHugh has been excellent for champions Kilcar. After impressing in a narrow win over Killybegs last weekend, he again led the way in their big win over Milford in Towney, adding four frees to his showing.
Conor O’Donnell (St Eunan’s)
Has been one of St Eunan’s brightest lights so far in this year’s Championship. Hit a point against Dungloe on Saturday evening and is really beginning to develop into a key member of Maxi Curran’s first XV.
Benny Fildara (Malin)
Scored 1-6 for Malin in their win over Termon at Connolly Park. His goal arrived when he volleyed home after being denied by a block from Kevin McDaid. Always a livewire threat, he caused Termon no end of angst.
Michael Murphy (Glenswilly)
Murphy took just nine seconds to have the ball in the Bundoran net as Glenswilly recorded a much-needed win on Sunday. Murphy added a second goal in the second half and ended the day with 2-6 to his name.
Andrew Kelly (St Michael’s)
Hit six points in St Michael’s facile win over Four Masters and was always a threat. Is a player in real form at the moment and will be key going forward for St Michael’s.
