Listen: Mark McHugh urges Kilcar to ‘step up’ in absence of totemic duo

Mark McHugh is confident Kilcar can overcome the hammer blows of the absence of Patrick McBrearty and Ryan McHugh as they bid to retain Dr Maguire.

Winning successive titles is a feat that has eluded most champions and Kilcar will be without McBrearty for their Championship quest as he continues his recover from a cruciate injury.

Ryan McHugh has yet to feature in this year’s Championship, but could return in the coming weeks.

“Donegal is a very hard championship to win and a harder championship to retain,” Mark McHugh said after last evening’s win over Sean MacCumhaills in Ballybofey.

“You need a squad. Whoever has the biggest and strongest squad will win it.

“Other boys have stepped up. These are the boys who will win Kilcar the Championship for us.

“If Donegal lost the two boys, they’d be a big loss, whatever about a club team with a population of so many people. We fight through it and we fully believe that we have a squad capable of replacing them.”
