If you think you’re putting in too many hours with a team or giving too much to a club, spare a thought for Franice Martin!
As the manager of the Glenfin senior ladies and Bundoran senior men’s teams, he’s looking after anything up to 50 players these days.
Last Sunday, he led Glenfin to glory in the Donegal Ladies SFC final, but couldn’t even stay for the presentation – Bundoran were playing a Donegal SFC group game in Ardara that evening.
This Sunday, Glenfin take on Cavan champions Lurgan at Pairc Taobhoige in the Ulster Championship at 2pm.
At 5pm, Bundoran meet Gaoth Dobhair in a Donegal SFC quarter-final at Sean MacCumhaill Park.
Bundoran train Tuesday and Thursday; Glenfin get together on Wednesdays and Fridays.
“It’s busy and you’re at something every day,” Martin says.
“I’m lucky the games haven’t directly clashed. I didn’t have much time on Sunday, mind you. The game was over and I was going around saying goodbye. I made Ardara in good time, but I just couldn’t stay around for the presentation.”
He’s blessed with his backroom teams: John McEniff and Bosco Moohan in Bundoran; Diane McGlynn, Jacquie O’Meara and Frank McGlynn at Glenfin.
“It’s just week-to-week now with both teams, with it being knockout,” Martin says.
“You’re sort of just surviving from week-to-week.”
