There is no stopping this Kilcar woman with her ambitious plans for expansion.

From Kilcar originally and now living in Ardara, Mabel McHugh is excited about the future of The Tax Clinic a business she founded along with Michael Coll nearly ten years ago.

The Tax Clinic is the only practice in the northwest that focuses on completing Tax Returns for small businesses and PAYE workers with additional income.

She says “You can’t build a house without a strong foundation and we have spent the last 10 years laying a solid foundation as we have invested heavily in all aspects of the business”.

“We have our five-year plan in place and for me, it’s all about expansion and growing our client base and looking after our existing clients. We have the systems and processes well refined and most importantly we have the people and expertise to keep delivering a first class service.

“Service is something we have really focused on over the past number of years and like any 5 star hotel, we are leaving no stone unturned. Every year we take all staff and management to a full day workshop were we critically analyse our own service levels and discuss where we can make improvements.

“Our staff, without doubt, is our most valued asset and training and continuous professional development is critical to the environment we work in. Currently, we have members of our team training to become Chartered Tax Advisors and Chartered Accountants.”

Mabel adds that like any expanding business there have been a few bumps in the road which is normal.

But she says “I have always had a very positive mental attitude to life and work from a young age and always believe if there is a problem we can find a solution and the right attitude is half the battle.”

You can tell Mabel isn’t just saying so when she declares that she loves her job.

“I have been working in the accountancy and taxation sector for over 25 years and I am looking forward to next 25 years. No day is the same and the work is challenging but the job satisfaction is incredible.

“We have just launched our new website http://www.thetaxclinic.ie  and next year we will be the first tax practice in Ireland to have a mobile office which will be fully kitted out with a meeting room that will be travelling the length and breadth of the country as part of our expansion plans.”
