Deputy Pat the Cope Gallagher, Leas Cheann Comhairle, has received confirmation from the Department of Children and Youth Affairs on potential youth capital funding for various projects in the county.

Confirmation of the grant aid comes after numerous representations by Pat the Cope on the different projects throughout Donegal over the past several months.

Five Donegal organisations have received funding, with The Deck Youth Development Project being granted the largest sum with a total of €17,330. The Youth Outreach Project was awarded €13,202, while the Letterkenny Youth Information Centre received €11,047.

The Youth Development Scheme and Daybreak Programme also received money, being granted €9,900 and €5,007 respectively.

“Each year, I am taken back at the sheer volume of work being carried out on a voluntary basis in the youth sector and funding programmes such as this one.

“They go some way into assisting the sector and make sure they meet the demands placed on it by their activities,” Pat the Cope said.

Pat the Cope added: “The funding certainly will be of great assistance to the various groups within the county, numerous voluntary and active youth groups have been extremely active in making their applications to the Department over the past year, whilst other groups may well be disappointed in failing to receive funding in this round of funding.

“I wish to compliment the groups which have secured funding today in this funding round and commend the great work they do in their respective communities.”
