A look at three familiar faces Finn Harps will face in play-off final

As Finn Harps prepare for their promotion-relegation play-off against Limerick FC this week, Ollie Horgan’s men will be up against some familiar faces.

There are still survivors on both sides from the play-off joust in 2015, when BJ Banda’s extra time goal fired Harps up into the Premier Division.

This week, Harps host Limerick at Finn Park on Monday before the return leg is played at the Markets Field on Friday night.

Here’s a look at three Limerick players who will not need an introduction …

Kilian Cantwell

A much-traveled defender, Cantwell (pictured above) had spells at UCD, Waterford, Wexford and Galway before his arrival at Finn Harps for the 2017 season.

Cantwell joined Harps having had a solid season at Galway United in 2016.

Last December, Cantwell was rumoured to be joining Crusaders and had been linked with Derry City.

However, Cantwell – a native of Kilkenny – signed for Limerick.

Shaun Kelly

A native of Killybegs, Kelly has never been on the books at Finn Park, but is well known to the Harps faithful.

In 2015, Kelly scored the only goal in the first leg as Limerick defeated Harps 1-0 at Markets Field. Harps famously overturned the deficit in the second leg to win promotion. Kelly stayed loyal to the Shannonsiders and was captain in 2016 when they won the First Division.

As a teenager, Kelly signed for Hearts in Scotland before returning to sign for Dundalk. He is now in his third spell at Limerick having left the club midway through last season.

He also spent 12 months at Derry City from 2014-2015.

Danny Morrissey

Two years ago, in November 2016, Morrissey’s signing for Harps raised a lot of eyebrows.

Morrissey had been a hit at Cork City, although injury curtailed his involvement. In 2015, he had scored the winner in an FAI Cup semi-final against Bray Wanderers.

Morrissey scored five times for Harps in 2017, but left the club following their relegation and signed for Limerick.

This year, Morrissey has netted five goals for Limerick.
