Listen: ‘That group won’t lie down’ says defiant Glengad boss Shane Byrne

Shane Byrne insists that his Glengad United are as hungry as ever for success – and says his men will be in the shake-up for honours again this season.

Two defeats this year already in the League to Aileach and Greencastle have ensured that the road ahead won’t be straightforward and indeed the nature of the 6-3 loss to Greencastle prompted a collective look in the mirror.

But Byrne says his serial winners won’t be giving up without a fight.

“That group won’t lie down,” he said after an emphatic 6-1 win at Cappry Rovers in the Ulster Cup on Sunday.

“We had a wee dip the day we played Greencastle.  Only two of our players turned up that day. We had a good, heated discussion after that game.

“They knew they let themselves down. It was probably the worst week they’ve had in six or seven years and they’ve bounced back…By losing two games, this is going to be the biggest challenge. But they’ve been handed a lot of things in the past and dealt with them.”
