Dungloe man scores twice as Ireland reach last 16 at World Cup

Dungloe man James Boyle scored twice to help Ireland qualify for the last 16 at the Amputee World Cup in Mexico.

Boyle bagged a double in a 4-1 win over Uruguay in San Juan del Los Lagos. It was Ireland’s first win in their group, but is enough to seal a berth in the last 16.

Boyle and Kevan O’Rourke scored a brace as Ireland advanced.

For O’Rourke, it was a special night as he was making his 40th appearance for Ireland.

Since making his Irish debut against Poland in 2012, Boyle has become the country’s top scorer and this year he lined out for Bohemians in the first IAFA National League.

He hit 20 goals and went into the World Cup in excellent form.

Boyle also netted in Ireland’s opening game, but they lost 3-1 to hosts Mexico, while Ireland went down 3-0 against England.

However, the overnight win against Uruguay means Ireland will have another game at least.

Tonight the Boys In Green beat Uruguay 4-1, Kevan O'Rourke on his 40th appearance clinching a last minute goal in a thrilling game that has saw them through to the last 16 of the WORLD CUP!!!!! #COYBIG
